文明の十字路アフガニスタンからやってきた光の絨毯 Ghaznin-ガズニン。10〜11世紀に栄えたガズニ州（ガズニー）は、歴史的に重要な政権（ガズナ朝）の首都であり、10〜11世紀には政治・軍事・文化の中心として大いに繁栄しました。特にマフムード・ガズナヴィーの時代には、イスラム世界の文化的中心地の一つとされ、学者や詩人が集まる国際的な都市でした。現在は当時の栄華は失われていますが、遺跡や建築物（マフムードの霊廟や古代のミナレットなど）が残っており、歴史的価値の高い都市＝古都と呼ぶにふさわしいと言えます。
